He was on a medical bed, two ensigns nearby. He looked over and noticed Jackson was there too-evidently his rescuer and Tesha's it would seem. He got up and stood over Jackson-the pilots shuttle. "What happened?" Jackson and the engsins described the riot, rescuing them and all the events they had bore witness to. "I need to report to the captain, me and Tesha discovered something he needs to hear" (Reply Jackson) "Oh and sir how is Jessica? You didn't mention her; does she know I am safe?" (Reply Jackson) "I am grateful" (Reply Jackson iyw) (Posted by Nathan) ----- (Yora III, Runabout, Tesha, Day 2, 0002) The grip was so strong, she could not move. She struggled with all her might, but she could not break free. Terrible words were spoken about damaging her antennae. A crash into the side of the runabout, a bright flash of light, then blackness. Floating. Noise. Eyes flutter open. ~Where am I? What happened?~ Tesha sat up quickly, and immediately wished she hadn't. Lying back down on the cot, her left cheek throbbing, she blinked and took a deep breath. She recognized the voices of Lieutenant Commander Jackson and Ensign C'Nell. She was safe. Tesha wasn't sure where they were going, but by the motion of the runabout, she could tell they were ascending. If they were heading back to the Rose, she wouldn't object. Things were too out of control on Yora III for the small group that had gone down. Giving aid to the people wouldn't work in this situation. They had to get right to the problem at hand. They had to get the power back on so the people could get their tech fix. Tesha was thankful that Lieutenant Commander Matrix made the call to evacuate. Now that they new what was happening on Yora, a definite plan could now be implemented. There was still hope they would be able to help the people and get things back to normal. Closing her eyes, Tesha drifted back to sleep. (reply none) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Yora City Hospital, Nolar, Day 2, 0005) Gan was inspecting the shuttle power conduits he had installed to provide power to the Hospital installation. He wanted to overload first the forcefields, then drop the conduits...and then lift up the shuttle. Jackson interrupted him. “The First Officer has decided to return all personnel to the Rose and re-group. We will provide cover for the other shuttles. Any Questions?”. asked Jackson "None, sir." Gan replied. "OK, Lets get the pre-flight done and get ready to lift off” Tom added. Gan nodded, completed his quick inspection of the power conduit, and climbed on board the shuttle. Once inside, he prepared for the shuttle lift up....and the overload. The power output had been increased significantly. As this power was getting through the conduit and reaching the different devices, the explosion would be happening in a few minutes only. Gan then switched the screen to the Hospital structural integrity. He wanted to target places where pieces of the wall would fall without any risk for the Hospital structural integrity. All was ready. If he was going to be awake all night, the least he could was some drudge work. =^= Kluj to sickbay — =^= Paul was working on the next week's nurse rotations when the now familiar, and at the moment strangely surreal, voice of the new science officer came over the comm. "Dr. Scudder here," Paul started, but Kluj spoke on without pause, seemingly without notice of who had replied: =^= — I need some assistance to formulate a plan to somehow infect Doctor Scudder with the Ulcartic virus, and . . . =/\= Without any change in his manner, though very much alarmed on the inside, Paul mechanically tapped out a query for Ulcartic virus while Kluj talked on. The name did not sound familiar to Paul, save for sounding unsurprisingly Klingon. His eyes scanned the medical file with growing anxiety as the comm fell silent. The nurse on duty glanced at Paul, surely wondering why the doctor was not responding. The disease sounded horrific. But — and here Paul raised a pointed brow — the idea sounded plausible. "I'll be right there," Paul replied, stood and, nodding to the nurse, made his way to the science labs. (posted by Mark) ----- (Rosenante, Shuttle Bay 1, Matrix, Day 2, 0015) His passengers onboard including the Administrator, the flight back to the Rose felt to Matrix as it took forever. ~Runabout Rubicon requesting permission to land in shuttle bay 1." Requested Matrix. (Reply anyone on the bridge) "I need medical personnel to meet us in the shuttle bay. I have Doctor Andersen aboard. I don't know her condition, but she appears stable. I also have the hospital Administrator onboard.I will explain that later. I'm also in need of medical attention." Continued Matrix. (Reply anyone on the bridge, anyone in medical) "Okay everyone we'll be onboard shortly. Just a few minutes longer." Said Matrix. "Administrator, once we get aboard our ship I would ask that you accompany me to sickbay." Continued. "Of course Commander, you need to see your ship's doctor and I wouldn't mind the opportunity to see your facilities." Replied the Administrator. Matrix smiled, "They may put you to work Administrator." (Reply bridge, medical, any) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Rosenante, Shuttle Bay 1, Nolar, Day 2, 0016) Once they had been out of danger, Gan had not been able to stop thinking. The whole mission had been a failure at the start. How the Federation, or more precisely Captain Sanok, Commander Matrix and Lieutenant Commander Jackson didn't saw it coming was completely unbelievable. He even warned both Matrix and Jackson that without electricity, the risk of violence would be great. It was hopeful Matrix at least allowed Gan to bring forcefields....cause if they have had no weapon and forcefields, maybe they would have not made it alive. Force was the only way to control them. What Starfleet did not understand is that using force is not necessarily negative. You can care a great deal about someone, yet force him to do certain things in his interest. It was in the interest of the Yorans, who clearly were not in the state to see it, to be forced away from the Hospital during the time they fixed part of the problem. It was not the first riot Gan experimented. So many times has he seen it. Whatever the specie, there was always a pattern. Emotions and total lack of reflection and feeling of responsibility and accountability were the catalysts of brutality, vandalism... Words had never been efficient at calming a revolt. Yet Starfleet insisted to use words. Clearly, in this case, the highly ethical and politically correct way of handling a situation like this was destined to fail. It's like dealing with Terrorists. The Maquis were a perfect example where Starfleet diplomacy went wrong and where only the Cardassian were able to prevent the situation to degenerate further. If it had not been from the Federation intervention, the Maquis would have been exiled from Cardassian colonies, and there would have been the current mess at the Cardassian-Maquis border. The frustration was to such point that he couldn't stop himself but to overload the forcefields. He knew that was the right thing to do to give them, especially Matrix and Andersen, the necessary time to leave. Yet, somehow, he apprehended that would not be the way it would be seen by the senior staff. That was also something he had learned. Sometimes, you are better do the right things, even it is understood by others the wrong way. Perhaps today they will see it negatively, but later they would thank him. And if not, at least he had saved their life. That was the least thing to do for a superior officer. (Reply no one) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Rosenante, Shuttle Bay 1, Andersen, Day 2, 0017) It was humming like crazy, first to the left, then to the right. Then again, like in waves, the awful humming sound came to one side and then switched to another. It wasn't pleasant. It wasn't even a sound. It was black. Everything was black... but thoughts emerged. Thoughts meant... she could think. ~You're thinking. It means you're alive.~ If she thinks, she is, and if she is, whatever happened, didn't finish her off. Better off, she would hate to die with a bad hair. She somehow could concentrate on her breathing, she could even hear her heart slowly pounding, but she could hear nothing else. She felt nothing, and perhaps it was for the better. ~I need to get... out.. I need to wake up.~ but it only stood as a thought. Nothing really happened. She almost felt as if she told a mountain to move... and the mountain proceeded to proudly stand where it was. She really felt as heavy as mountain. ~If I don't feel pain, does it mean I was treated... or that my brain was damaged?~ another thought haunted her for mere seconds before she dismissed it. ~I know that I am alive. It's a beginning. I still have so much to live for.~ and the ending words almost echoed in her head. Having no idea what happened to her, she would really welcome anyone waking her up now and explaining it was just a bad dream. But the nightmare wasn't over for as long as she wasn't awake. She didn't know if she got awake before, she definitely could not remember any past times if she did. She concentrated her efforts on moving her fingers... but they weren't moving. Would always looked so easy when patients would do it. ~Think, Ailyn, think think.~ she told herself repeatedly. She concentrated her mind on the thought she needs to wake up. A faint sound of someone familiar speaking - that was getting louder by the seconds - and to the light that she could, more and more, see beyond her eyelids. Slowly, like a butterfly leaving it's chrysalis, she opened her eyes. Beyond the infernally bright light, she could spot some shadows, human like. She was not alone. Finally, wanting to move her hand up, the hand flew in the air and she could see it in front of her own eyes. Ever more slowly, she tried standing up, it wasn't going as hard as she thought it would. Her muscles felt weak, but by every second, she had more and more control of them. Feeling shakey, she stepped on her two legs, and finally took a deep breath. (Reply: Matrix) The man's words echoed through her head, and she could see it was Matrix in front of her... all three of them. Moving her head about, shaking and re-focusing, she could understand why everything felt dizzy and blurry. She could very well diagnose herself. She hoped the concussion didn't leave permanent damage on her parts of the brain, although it didn't seem to be any. She felt no pressure in the head, and certainly by this time, if she had any kinds of hemorrhage, she would already be affected by it. As she stood there, the man repeated his words, several times, until she could catch a few of those, guessing what the others were. "Never felt better, sir. I... just need a moment, then I'll be able to walk. What happened and am I in immediate need, sir?" she finished asking, grabbing the handle on the sides to better fortify her standing. (Reply: Matrix) "I see. I'll have to review everything to be able to give a decision. I would like to check in to the sickbay, if I may be excused." she finished almost mumbling. She needed to at least get something for this awful motion sickness feeling and dizziness she had, then she could do her best with the situation with Ensign Scudder. (Reply: Matrix) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (Rosenante, Sickbay, Matrix, Day 2, 0018) Matrix made his way to sickbay and was sitting up on one of the bio beds while the EMH was looking over his wound as the Administrator looked on. "Commander...you've got a nasty wound here, but no vital organs were pierced or damaged. I've given you a pain reliever and you will feel a pulling sensation while I remove this from your shoulder. " said the EMH. After a few moments the foreign object was removed from Matrix's shoulder and placed in a medical tray. Matrix picked it up and looked it over. "This is an abdominal probe." Said the Administrator, "In case you're wondering." "Actually I was Administrator." Replied Matrix. "Good to know I was stabled with a medial probe. I guess it would have been worse areas to struck with this thing." The Administrator wasn't sure how to take his comment, but smiled politely. "Please lie back on the bio bed Commander. I'm going to use the knitter to heal the wound and internal damage so this will take a few minutes. Just relax and do not move. I will check on you in a few minutes." Said the EMH. The Administrator was fascinated by the technology in the sickbay and watched as the knitter began to regenerate the injured tissues in the Commander's shoulder. The digital display on the knitter screen was showing an animation of the activity going inside his body as small energy-matter device rebuilt area of the wound. "Its tied into our ships computer and references my transport records as a reference. It then rebuilds the damaged tissues based upon those records." Explained Matrix. "Simply amazing!" replied the Administrator. (Reply none) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Rosenante, Sickbay, Andersen, Day 2, 0019) The nurses swarmed her, checking her eyes, asking her millions on questions, when everything she wanted was a second of peace. "Yes to headache, yes I'm dizzy, drowsy, a little unsteady at walking and yes I feel the weakness in my muscles. Any other questions?" she asked looking at nurse. "But, that means..." the nurse started. "Yes, and I'm fully capable of prescribing my own medicines to treat the symptoms. I've been out for the better part of our time here, I have no intention of missing the rest." she shrugged. "I must insist you let me run some basic scans at least. I'm sure the Captain would want his CMO in her best state." the nurse awkwardly said, she looked like she was just pitted against a raging meteorite storm. ~Hmm, so now she's going to pull that doc talk on me.~ Ailyn chuckled in herself, that's precisely what she'd do in the place of the young nurse. She remembered, the nurse came in to find herself lost in the work, clumsy, uncertain in her own capabilities. Ailyn noted to herself how much the nurse improved - in fact how much the crew improved since she's been on board. "Better make it quick." Ailyn said, and laid down on the bed. Looking at the screen near her, she crossed the nurse's eyes. "There's visible part of swelling on the cerebral cortex, I think..." "It will subside, I can soothe out the pain, the dizzyness with the medics, the vision should get back to normal soon, as it's only a little blurry. You'll make a fine doctor one day, but you worry too much, I'll be fine." she said, standing up then grabbing a PADD that was laying around, moving away from the nurse that didn't said anything although seemed she had something on the tips of her tongue. "Get me Scudder's data, I want to see what's been happening with my patient while I was gone." saying that, she took the first chair and sat down, despite her best trying to look normal, she could barely walk, a little rest here and there, she thought, would be enough, for now at least. When she got the data, she started reading and reading, she had a huge homework to do, since she wasn't present for an extensive time. She was mad at herself for the fact she was injured so easily, and thus promised herself one thing... after this was over, she would start practicing martial arts, she would get stronger, and hone her survival skills. She hated the feeling of having little to no control of the outcome of situations-went bad, she had to put soo much effort just to be able to catch everyone else, it had to stop, and no better day for a change but the day she barely walks. Eventually, she threw the PADD on the biobed, her eyes almost closing by themselves, she could focus no more. Getting a little bit more comfortable, she sat, relaxed and would close her eyes and then open them back. The nurse figured her out and came to her. "Would you like a pillow?" she asked, laughing. Ailyn naturally got the joke and started laughing as well. In all honesty though, a pillow is something she wouldn't say no to at the moment. "You know what, you go relax to your quarters. I promise I will call you if anything drops by, if any conditions change around Ensign Scudder. We can handle it from here, Doctor." she said, smiling "I'll notify Captain about your status." the nurse added. Ailyn barely picked herself up, the nurse added "Go relax, that's an order." trying to emulate the way Ailyn spoke, and the way she would move when giving orders. Ailyn chuckled once again, thanked her, and went on straight to her quarters, for some hard earned sleep. "Kluj, please," Paul requested of yet another unfamiliar science officer. Paul's eye followed the direction of the officer's extended arm —"Thank you," Paul said with a nod — and Paul finally stepped into Kluj's lab. "Ensign Kluj," Paul said to announce his entrance. "I hope I've not kept you. I'm Doctor Scudder. We haven't formally met." (reply Kluj) Paul nodded, eager to discuss the matter at hand. "From a brief examination of the virus, your idea sounds promising. May I?" Paul gestured to a science screen. (reply Kluj) Paul tapped the screen to access medical and pull up more detailed data and research on the Ulcartic virus, text and diagrams and familiar faces from Starfleet medical research teams filling the screen. Paul navigated the voluminous and interrelated data smoothly. "There are a number of factors to consider, especially in regard to halting the virus's effects when needed. Replicating the virus itself is not a problem." ~Bored with it all,~ Paul repeated to himself, showing no sign of his fear of administering this virus to himself. "I have an idea of how we might exploit the virus's lack of RNA to control both its reproduction and its lifespan — if I'm correct, almost instantaneously, like a switch — but the equipment to test my theory does not exist. At least not yet." (reply Kluj) (posted by Mark) ----- (Rosenante, Science Lab, Kluj, Day 2, 0021) "Ensign Kluj," Paul said to announce his entrance. "I hope I've not kept you. I'm Doctor Scudder. We haven't formally met." Kluj held up his hand to Scudder in the traditional Vulcan salute. "Live long, and die well." The doctor raised his eyebrow and spoke stoically, "An interesting meld of your two heritages, Kluj." "Yes doctor," Kluj replied equally stoically, "Are you ready to go over my theory?" Paul nodded, eager to discuss the matter at hand. "From a brief examination of the virus, your idea sounds promising. May I?" After Paul's review, he gave his assessment and added. "I have an idea of how we might exploit the virus's lack of RNA to control both its reproduction and its lifespan — if I'm correct, almost instantaneously, like a switch — but the equipment to test my theory does not exist. At least not yet." "Interesting...a 'virus-switch.' The control algorithms and protocols would be astronomically complex, not to mention the changes that would also need to be made to the replicated virus' genetic structures." Kluj stroked his goatee. "I'm going to assume that you and the medical team will take on the research of exactly what enhancements need to be made when replicating the virus so that it can respond to the 'switch,' while I and the science team will try to put together a device that we can use to control the modified virus once it has been introduced to the patient's...I mean your...system. Of course we'll also need to work together on a method and protocol to make the device function, and may I add that I hope we can work together to find a solution for you're problem." (reply Scudder) (posted by Dave) ----- (Rosenante, Sickbay, Tesha, Day 2, 0022) The away team retreated from Yora and made it back to the Rose. Tesha had been injured, so she was one of those ordered to report to sickbay. Being in the medical department, she would have gone there anyway, but she was a patient now. She did not like it from that perspective. Tesha and C'Nell had been attacked by a band of Yorans suffering from withdrawal from the chips implanted in them. C'Nell had been stunned by a phaser, but Tesha had been slammed into the side of one of the runabouts. She had a serious bruise on her left cheek, and judging by the pain, a possible fracture. She had waved off treatment, telling the nurses and techs to tend to the others first. One nurse finally took no for an answer, and Tesha had to relent. "I know medical people make for the worst patients, but your antennae are drooping, so it's time for you to take your medicine." The nurse chuckled. Tesha thought there was a joke in there somewhere, but she wasn't familiar with many of the Human jokes. "So how was it down there?" Tesha grunted. "Bad. If something isn't done soon, there's going to be people killed." "I heard there's something about a chip the people have implanted in them. Is that true?" "Yes," said Tesha. "It's something they pay to have done. They're connected to their cyber network. From what I saw, it looks very efficient, but over time, a psychological addiction forms. With the power out, the people are suffering withdrawal." The nurse shook her head. "It's a shame they let that happen." She turned off the medical tricorder she was using to scan Tesha. "You have a hairline fracture in your left zygomatic bone. You'll need treatment from a bone regenerator." "Yeah, I know the drill." Tesha was in a grumpy mood, her antennae still drooping. When the nurse left to get the regenerator, Tesha considered slipping out and heading back to her quarters, but she knew she needed the treatment. Besides, it hurt, and she could use the pain med. Sighing, Tesha wondered what was going to happen next. She knew the Rose wouldn't just leave, so the captain and senior staff still had a problem to solve. Well, whatever that was, her part in it was probably over. "Okay, Tesha, are you ready?" The nurse had returned. "Definitely." She felt the warm vibration as the regenerator began its work.... "I would think that particular specialty would be something for which the medical team might have a specialist. My specialties are in computer systems, energy systems, and particle physics, with a keen interest in quantum singularity manipulation. If we couldn't find someone qualified I guess I could make a freshman attempt." Kluj answered, while he continued to try and formulate an initial design of some kind. He had been out of the flow for too long, he was hardly hurt but the Doctors did like to fuss after him. They injected him with various drugs to help the "after-stun". C'Nell left for his quarters (after getting permission). He would be at the 0100 briefing but first he wanted to change uniform, shower and get used to the situation. He sighed deeply. He wanted Jessica just to walk into him and hold him. Perhaps his mother had had an effect on him. (Reply None) (Posted by Nathan) ----- (Rosenante, Sickbay, Nolar, Day 2, 0029) Gan had been so absorbed by the way the senior staff managed the mission and the riot that he had completely missed something very important. It was only once on the USS Rosenante that he learned about it. As soon as he learned it, Gan headed to sickbay. How could he has forgotten one of his most important duty. How could he have been so distracted not to have been there.... Clearly, with the current situation, he wasn't in his best state of mind. In sickbay, he saw Commander Matrix on a bio bed. "Sir are you okay" Gan asked both to the commander and the EMH (Reply EMH or Matrix). "I must apologize sir. I should have been there. You needed me and I wasn't there. I should have been the one searching for Ensign Andersen. By my fault, you were injured." said Nolar. "Lieutenant...it's no one's fault. You are certainly not to be blamed for anything." (Reply Nolar) "Gan.don't worry about it. Get back to your duties and carry on. Understood?" asked Matrix. (Reply Nolar) "Thank you doctor. Its feeling great. I need a change in uniform though." (Reply Nolar) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Rosenante, Personal Quarters, Andersen, Day 2, 0033) Ailyn opened her computer, swapping several connections to disable the connection to the rest of the ship, then proceeded to connect a module she had hidden away. This would prevent the computer from raising alarm and just likewise prevent anyone from noticing anything out of ordinary without deep scans. Sweeping through subspace frequencies, the module stopped on one and slowly started transmitting data. After several seconds, the light on the module went green, there was a direct connection... She punched several numbers - a password, into the module and the small screen on her wall lit up. "Ah, doctor. I was wondering what was taking you so long." the ever-so-overconfident voice of the General echoed through the half empty room. "General." she nodded, proceeding to sit on her bed. "Update, doctor." he said, sipping coffee from a mug he had in his right hand. "We have a situation down on Yora III, I... was not available for the small duration of the current mission, sir." she started excusing herself. "Continue, doctor." "Basically, as far as I was told, the power in the city has been out for several days. Since these people are... accustomed to the technology, they're going through some rough withdrawal symptoms." "I see. Is there any kind of technology we can salvage?" he quickly asked. "Sir, these people have chips inside, I believe we can reuse a device such as this... surely reprogramming would be in order, but I believe the technology would be a valuable asset for our research in connecting a man and a machine." "Are you certain of this?" "I am definitely certain. The information is valid." "Excellent. Try to acquire at least one of these devices, if it's possible, a working one, but in least case scenario, even salvaged components would be a benefit to our research." he explained, adding "Is there anything else you have for reporting, doctor?" "As a matter of fact yes, our Ensign, Scudder, got chipped somehow. I haven't been able to scan the chip yet..." "Do your best to extract the chip, if it's not possible with the tools you have, try to send the patient to Earth, the technology will be in our reach. Alternatively, let me know where is he taken, as soon as possible." "Yes, General. Since I haven't scanned it myself, I do not know if it's the same kind of device the Yorans have." "Logic dictates it would be. Regardless, do your best to acquire it or send as much data as possible and we will take it from thereon." "Um, may I ask if Taylor is on the base?" "Taylor is currently unavailable. You're not authorized to know more." "Ahh another super secret hush hush mission." she said sarcastically. "Do you know, or have reasons to believe, if someone is behind the situation at Yora III?" "No, sir. Nothing for now, I will update you if that changes." "See that you do. We will need your expertise soon." "What is in store for me?" "More about that next time, perhaps. You're looking like you've been served Tamasian peppers for breakfast, doctor. Get yourself in order." The connection was terminated as quickly as it was opened. Her mission was crystal clear now. She had to go down... In a way, this made her feel so guilty, but on the other hand, it gave her purpose... she felt she has better purpose then the others, and this moved her even more. Grabbing a dermal regenerator she had under her bed, she started fixing herself up. Matrix didn't notice how cold he was until he was back onboard and in sickbay. As he entered the observation lounge he acknowledged everyone in the room and took a seat near the head of the table and put down his customary red PADD. He waited for the other officers and invited crew to arrive while checking over the duty roster, ship's status and a handful of reports about the mission thus far. The events on the surface was not to his liking. Not because of his injury, but that of some of the other crew, not to mention the Yoran citizens and the reason of the mission. The mission so far was a disaster. He nodded to Signos and the two exchanged a look that would be seen clearly as in line of duty but showed they both knew the other was alive. He surveyed the other senior officers as they arrived and those who had arrived before them. Everyone looked better now, patched up. C'Nell himself hid any marks of his events. He found his mind wandering to the Science Officers job. New staff had arrived and been promoted to officership and still Captain Sanok did not name a new Science officer. His Vulcan mind quickly put these selfish human thoughts out of his mind, it was illogical and irrelevant at the present time. He waited for the briefing to commence. (posted by Nathan) ----- (Rosenante, Observation Lounge, Nolar, Day 2, 0056) Gan was patiently waiting in the observation lounge. He did not know what to expect. The situation had gotten out of control. Was it surprising? No. It was to be expected. If someone asked him why, he had an answer all ready, but he anticipated no one would. He was even afraid the situation would not change one bit. What if the next plan prepared by his superiors would still be based on being nice and solving it with words. What if they didn't accept the idea that sometimes you have to use force to prevent someone to do harm to himself. Gan didn't know what to expect. They were his superior and he had already vowed his point. They had the right to refuse his recommendation. Respect of hierarchy meant he had to do whatever they asked of him. Taking a seat around the table, Gan waited for the briefing to start. (Reply any, iyw) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Rosenante, Observation Lounge, Jackson, Day 2, 0057) Tom was glad he had stopped by his quarters for a brief time. Dahlia always made the right gesture or said the very thing that he needed. He gazed out the room's portal. The black vastness of space always seemed to be a healing agent for his mental state. Tom sipped his coffee as he thought about the current mission. He took a seat near where the CO and FO would sit. Tom reviewed the mission to date. His medical knowledge was limited to be sure. The state of the Yoran people was odd to say the least. It was almost like addicts going through withdrawal. He thought momentarily of Gambril and wondered how he was coping. (No Reply) (Posted by: Bill W) ----- (Rosenante, Tesha, Day 2, 0058) Tesha was on her way to the observation lounge for a briefing with the captain about what had happened on Yora III. It was the first time she had been included in anything like that, so she wanted to do everything exactly right. After being treated in sickbay for her injury, Tesha had gone to her quarters to get cleaned up, and to put on a fresh uniform. She had said no to a pain med, as she didn't want to be clouded in any way for the meeting. Though the fracture had been regenerated, there was still some pain. She could deal with pain. Outside the observation lounge where the briefing would be held, Tesha waited as senior officers arrived and went inside. She tried to remember if she had ever been on deck 1 before, but she couldn't think of a time. Tesha still didn't care for officers, but she could become accustomed to being involved in the important missions. "A penny for your thoughts." Tesha was almost startled by the unexpected voice. "Mm? What?" It was David Allen from security. He was another non-com that would be at the briefing. "I said, penny for your thoughts." Tesha blinked, her antennae moving in slow circles. "I don't know what that means." "It's an old saying from Earth. A penny was a coin of very low value. It means, if I give you a penny, will you tell me what's on your mind?" Tesha wrinkled her features as she contemplated this old saying. Was Allen saying her thoughts were of such little value? Probably not, so she didn't say anything about it. "I was thinking about the meeting. It'll be my first with the senior staff." "I know what you mean," said Allen. "Maybe we're moving up in the world." "Another old saying from Earth?" Allen chuckled. "Maybe someone should write a book about sayings from everyone's planet." He chuckled again. "I'm thinking we're probably going back down," said Tesha. "Yeah, I agree. Other ships are still a day away, and we need to get the power back on." Tesha sighed, her antennae stiffening for a second. "What?" said Allen. "Getting the power back on means the Yorans go back to the tech that addicted them." "True, but what happens if they don't get back on?" "Things will get worse and people will die," said Tesha. As a medical person, she hated getting the people back on the tech, but she knew it was the only thing that could be done at this point. "Then we help them now by getting the power back on." Tesha nodded. There was a pause, and when she heard someone coming, she glanced to see who it was. It was Captain Sanok. Allen followed Tesha's gaze. Motioning towards the lounge, the two petty officers hurried inside. They didn't want to arrive late for their first briefing with the senior staff. Finding a seat, Tesha settled in next to Doc Andersen. The captain entered and took the seat at the head of the table. Tesha's antennae flutter as the captain began. Compared to her earlier self, she actually looked much better now. It was imperative that Captain thinks she's ready for an away mission. She didn't know if any was planned, but she already made a plan to ask the Captain to be sent down, for additional research data, if not for anything else. Indeed, perhaps additional research could help in Scudder's case as well. As it always was, it wasn't her decision to make, but she wasn't just going to sit and wait for something to happen on it's own. If she could find a reason... if she could be given permission to go back... she was sure she wouldn't come back empty handed. Grabbing the first free seat, she turned towards the CO resting her head on her hand, and waiting silently for the briefing to start. After the Starfleet personnel had retreated back to their ship, and once he realized the hopelessness of the situation, he had gone to a familiar place to get his thoughts together. For several years now, he hadn't liked the direction things were going on Yora. He didn't like it, but he had kept his mouth shut. What could he really do about it anyway? Yorans had one of the highest standards of living in the sector, even better than many Federation worlds. The people were happy, prosperous, and healthy. Who was to say what had happened was so bad? Governor Caru had maintained the standard and the contentment of the people. For decades, Yora was an idyllic place to live. Things were good, but at what price? Gambril had been head of the police for years, a position he liked very much. However, there was a price to pay for that as well. Being part of the upper echelon on Yora, he became privy to the underhanded things the people didn't know were happening. He had gone along with it, as he wanted to keep his position and status, but nothing bad had ever happened. Now, with the power out, and their inability to restore it, everything was coming to a head, and he didn't like it. The problem was, what could he do now, without exposing his part in it? "I see you are very punctual, Mister Gambril." Gambril looked at the man that entered his office from the hidden passage in the police center. "What do you want?" "A full report on everything the Starfleet people did, said, and discovered." Gambril sighed. Of course. Motioning for his visitor to sit, he opened his desk and brought out his notes. Solius was far from home and had been for over a year, their current mission was created in secret in hopes of harvesting a new type of crop; a new type of technology all at the expense of a benign species. The mission at hand was getting interesting and yet Solius wasn't accustom to being challenged or questioned. His superiors warned him of such a possibility and it would seem their foresight was unfolding before his very eyes. The reprimand by his commanding officer made everyone aboard nervous. Even those where were not present and the time made sure to keep their distance and avoided eye contact with Solius. Solius remained calm and collected as usual. Taking his customary seat he reviewed the latest intelligence reports, noting that the Administrator was aboard the Federation starship. Smiling, he hoped their operative would acquire the additional information they desired. Even without it Solius knew what the outcome of their mission would be. Either way it would be a victory, Solius would make sure of that. "Helm...take us out of high orbit of the Yoran system...farthest departure from the Federation ship. I don't want to risk being seen." Ordered Solius. "Yes, sir." Was the nervous response. Good, Solius thought. We'll back off and let this unfold a bit more. (Reply none) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Rosenante Observation Lounge, Sanok, Day 2, 0115) Sanok began the briefing by getting right to the point. Each person gave a report of what they experienced on Yora. Combining that with the report Matrix was able to send from the surface, and from an interesting conversation Sanok had with Governor Caru, he decided to send another team back to the planet. "Our initial response to Yora III was unsuccessful, though we were going in without knowing the situation. Now that we know the full extent of what's happening, it is even more imperative that we restore the power." Sanok noted the body language of Andersen and Tesha. The medical people didn't like the idea of putting the Yorans back on the tech that made them addicts, but at this point, it was the best thing to do. Lives were at stake. Let the medical ships that were on their way, handle what came next. "Governor Caru was quite evasive about why his people are unable to restore the power themselves, but after some persuasion, he did give me information about the facility and what we need to do to access it." Sanok stood and walked to the monitor near the head of the table. Turning it on, it showed a virtual image of Yora City. "The highlighted building is the administrative office for the city power and cyber net system. Below it is a large underground facility. I am sending covert team back to Yora. We need to restore the power or things will go badly. "Mister Nolar, you and PO Allen will enter the administrative building and make your way below. There are four access ways down, so you should be able to do it without being discovered. Get the power back on." Sanok turned off the monitor. "Mister Matrix, you will investigate what you discovered with the falsified medical records. Assemble a team and take the administrator with you. It is possible there is a conspiracy here, and evidence suggests the Romulans may be involved." Sanok looked at everyone in the room. He did not reveal it outwardly, but inside, he wanted nothing more than to go with them. "I emphasize that this is a covert mission. You will wear black clothing and take with you only what you can carry. You are also authorized to use necessary force to protect yourselves and the Yoran citizens. "There is a forest two miles north of the city. You will board one runabout and approach from that direction, flying as low to the ground as is safe. Secure the runabout in the woods and make your way into the city." Sanok paused again. "Questions?" (reply any) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Rosenante Observation Lounge, Jackson, Day 2, 0118) Sanok began the briefing. Tom stayed silent for most of it. (Reply: Any Present) Tom continued " We'll-all carry type two phasers ad side arms" NRPG: these are also known as `pistol` phasers. (Reply: Any) (Posted: Bill W.) ----- (Rosenante Observation Lounge, Matrix, Day 2, 0121) The Captain's briefing was direct and concise and he agreed with the course of action. "Questions?" asked Sanok. "Captain, we were unable to communicate with the away team or the ship while on the surface. If possible I would like to see if we can't resolve that prior to heading down again. Mister C'Nell please see what you can do." Suggested Matrix. (Reply Sanok - IYW, C'Nell) "Tom, really our call, but I think the phasers would be more than adequate. I think the phaser rifles would be more of a hindrance we'll need to move quickly and quietly and with only the essential gear. If you feel the need I think only a select few should be deployed. Tricorders are always a good idea." Continued Matrix. (Reply Jackson, any) "The Administrator has been assigned quarters. I will brief him before we deploy...I think we can be assured of his cooperation, he's provided some good information so far. I will have ship's stores issue the Administrator black attire as well, no weapons. Commander Jackson, Doctor Andersen, C'Nell, and Tesha will be with me. " continued Matrix. (Reply Sanok, C'Nell, Jackson, any) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Rosenante Observation Lounge, Nolar, Day 2, 0124) Gan examined the virtual image of the Yoran city. The choice of putting the main power source below the government building already indicated a lot. The government wanted to have control of it. Considering the fact the chips relied on such power to function, Gan could understand why. He also looked at how deep they would need to go. Repairing a power source was no small thing. He didn't wanted to have to make all the way up and down through those access ways to get the pieces he needed. Not without mentioning, it would be very easy to lock him down there. What he needed were transporter beacon. If he could install several of them down to where he had to work, he wouldn't have to worry about transporting stuff. To know how many, and which intensity, he needed to know the composition of the building. What kind of alloy was used, how tick. Was there any beam blocker installed, etc. It would be impossible to beam to the ship, but a runabout would be capable of transporting things or officers up and down. Also, since they must not know about it, he also needed a way to disrupt the sensors they may have so that the Yorans do not detect the beaming. He was no expert in sensors. But he knew someone who was, and who was not already assigned to the away team. Pressing his communicator. "Gan to Ensign Kluj, meet me in my office in sixteen minutes." (Reply Kluj) After his conversation, Gan headed to the First Officer office. (Reply Matrix) "Sir, if I understand correctly, I am in charge of the small effective that is going to go down to the power source?" asked Gan (Reply Matrix) "I would like to include Ensign Kluj, and an officer from operation to the list." he demanded. (Reply Matrix) "There will be a lot of sensors out there trying to locate our presences. Also, I have the intention to install transporter beacons down there to avoid having to move stuff up and down and I would need to hide the transporters beams from being detected. I need a science officer for that. As for the operation officer, it always come handy to have a specialist of computers, energy output, operations, transporters, and someone who knows enough about engineering to help me down there doing the repairs." he explained (Reply Matrix) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Rosenante, FO Office, Nolar, Day 2, 0129) "There will be a lot of sensors out there trying to locate our presences. "Yes sir." he replied. ~A Covert mission perhaps, but I still have to fix the main power reactor. It's an engineering problem, not a spying one...and I need the men for that.....never mind, I can do it~ he thought. If possible I would like to see if we can't resolve that prior to heading down again. Mister C’Nell please see what you can do." C'Nell thought for a moment "I need to find out the source of it; I can try boosting power and other such tricks; perhaps engineering can run some diagnostics do their trickery-I fear though that the problem is down on Yora, it is however likely that it isn't a complete dampening that would be illogical and how are they maintaining it without power and-" he trailed off into his own mind "I need time, the mission might be delayed" (Reply Matrix, Sanok iyw) C'Nell acknowledged their orders and with the briefing at an end he set off to prepare for the away mission. He packed a Type II phaser as discussed and a tricorder which he personally set up, he figured the Doctor would bring more advanced medical supplies but he brought a hypospray with some fairly standard pain killers. He looked down on his work bench and his recent experiment caught his eyes. He was attempting to build a holographic disguise which would cause the person to imitate the appearance and voice of a person of their choosing or alternatively their background. It wasn't a perfect cloak and it was experiamental so the power system lasted only for a short time... C'Nell placed it with his stuff. (Reply None) (Posted Nathan)
